Dobbiamo essere leoni – Gender identity told by teens, for teens – SalTo+

The 2021 edition of the Turin Book Fair presented in its programme several events related to inclusivity and the LGBT+ world, now well known to the youngest but still obscure to the older generations. The ideal setting in which to propose a meeting dedicated to We Must Be Lions, the novel by Line Baugstø published by MIMebù in September 2021.

The story of Malin, Leona and their friends can be a very useful starting point for introducing the theme of gender identity at school, and in fact the meeting was attended by several classes, girls and boys who were attentive and interested in the book and the topics covered, also thanks to the intervention of Irene Facheris, psychologist and content creator, who also works as a trainer in schools, addressing both students and school staff. She was joined by Federica Caslotti, voice of Fika Podcast, a virtual space where we talk about books, feminism and curiosities, and Lorenza Novelli, MIMebù’s events manager, who for the occasion acted as spokesperson for Line Baugstø, the author, who was unable to fly to Italy but participated at a distance in the event, with a video message dedicated to Italian readers.

They talked about diversity and inclusion, the courage to be oneself and the importance of not remaining silent in the face of injustice. An intense and interesting afternoon, especially for adults, who always have so much to learn from children.
