“Il bambino che guarda con le mani” at the State Secondary School for the Blind “Vivaio” in Milan

On 12 January 2022, we met online with class 1A of the State Middle School for the Blind “Vivaio” to present and discuss the book Il bambino che guarda con le mani (The boy who sees with his fingers).
The meeting was organised by Lorenza Novelli (MIMebù School Events and Projects) and Alessandra Novelli (freelance audio writer and collaborator of LISten, a social promotion association for deaf and hearing inclusion).

We would like to thank teachers Roberta Felici, Francesca Amendola and Lucia Lo Re for realising this initiative and for the passion and care with which they dedicate themselves to the education of their pupils.

THE BOOK

What is the right way to treat disability? Kamil is a child like any other: he is cheerful and lively, five years old, goes to kindergarten and loves to make silly jokes. But what makes him special? He has been blind since birth.
It was not easy growing up with a visual impairment, but with the help of his loved ones Kamil learned to sharpen his hearing, train his imagination and ‘look with his hands’. His outlook on life is rich, ironic, sometimes funny, sometimes touching. But is he really so different from the others? Kamil’s adventures, with his challenges and successes, remind us of one thing that we must never forget and that we all have in common: if we want to, we can succeed at anything!
